Behavioral Health

Behavioral health services are an essential part of any comprehensive approach to health care. There are many different approaches that health care organizations can take to providing behavioral services, but integrated systems offer many benefits, including easier access for customers, improved ability for consultation on customer cases, and the de-stigmatization of behavioral needs, which may lead some customers to be more willing to seek services they need. However, overhauling behavioral health systems can be difficult, and there are many factors that can prevent health care systems from achieving the results they want.

Southcentral Foundation has been offering integrated behavioral services as part of the Nuka System of care for over ten years. Our consultants can help your organization establish new behavioral services and/or improve existing ones, including systems that are integrated with primary care.

SCF uses a multidisciplinary approach to support those impacted by trauma, including but not limited to behavioral health, primary care, and the Family Wellness Warriors program. More information on SCF’s approach to trauma-informed care can be found here.

Learn about our approach

In Southcentral Foundation’s Nuka System of Care, behavioral health is not treated separately from physical health. Behavioral Health Consultants have been fully integrated into primary care for more than 15 years. They’re available for same-day appointments with customer-owners, and quick consultation with Integrated Care Teams as needed on customer-owner cases.

SCF’s Learning Circles, a form of group therapy based on the Alaska Native value of sharing story and listening to others share theirs, provide effective opportunities for personal growth and wellness on topics ranging from grief and loss, substance recovery support, anxiety, and other life support.

Efforts to identify and address trauma and its impacts on health through cultural strategies has resulted in the creation of SCF’s Family Wellness Warriors program.
