Certified Chemical Dependency Counselors Training

Substance abuse is one of the main public health crises in the United States today. Certified chemical dependency counselors (CDC) are key to combatting this crisis. Southcentral Foundation is pleased to be a NAADAC (National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors) approved education provider, offering courses to support individuals who are interested in becoming certified chemical dependency counselors. The four core courses everyone, regardless of degree of experience, must take to become a CDC are NAADAC Ethics, NAADAC Confidentiality, Infectious diseases and HIV/AIDS and Introduction to addictive behavior.  We offer these core courses in three consecutive day periods throughout the year. You must register at least 1 week prior to training date.

NAADAC
Ethics

This course is designed to provide an in depth look of the conflicts and issues surrounding ethics with particular attention given to the NAADAC code of ethics. Ethical issues that are applicable to health care settings and substance abuse facilities are explored.  Participants will learn how to apply models and decision trees when attempting to resolve ethical dilemmas and conflict.

NAADAC Confidentiality

This course explores the complexities of confidentiality in the field of substance use disorder treatment including significant time spent reviewing and discussing HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.

  • Define current regulations that apply to customer-owners who are in substance use treatment at SCF, including 42 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 2 and HIPAA
  • Identify resources that inform substance use treatment confidentiality at SCF

Infectious Diseases & HIV/AIDS

This course covers common sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, trichomonas and HPV), HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and tuberculosis in the context of substance use disorders and treatment. Participants will learn how these diseases are transmitted and treated. The course also explores easy to apply risk reduction strategies for each.

Intro to Addictive Behavior

This course explores nine addiction topics including definitions and theories of addiction, impact of addictions, risk factors and resiliency, commonly abused substances and prevention, intervention and recovery.
