Katherine Gottlieb, MBA, DPS
Katherine Gottlieb joined Southcentral Foundation (SCF) in 1987 and has served at the helm of the organization since 1991. She is a tribal member of the village of Old Harbor, a tribal member and elected tribal council member for Seldovia Village Tribe, and an honorary member of the Native Village of Eklutna.
Under Gottlieb’s direction and guidance, SCF has become a leader among the nation’s health care organizations.
She is a Visiting Scientist at Harvard Medical School, was a founding board member of Cook Inlet Native Head Start, served on the National Library of Medicine Board of Regents, Alaska Pacific University Trustee emeritus, and is active at the national level in Alaska Native and American Indian policy issues.
In 2004, she was a recipient of the MacArthur “Genius Award.” She is also the recipient of the 2015 Harry S. Hertz Leadership Award presented by the Foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. For 2016, she was presented the Indian Health Service National Director Award.
In 2016 she received an honorary doctoral degree, doctor of humane letters, honoris causa, from the University of Alaska Anchorage in recognition of her leadership in transforming health care services for Alaska Native people. In 2005, she received an honorary doctoral degree, a doctor of public service, honoris causa, from Alaska Pacific University in recognition of her extraordinary public service.
President, Adventist Health Castle
Kathy Raethel is President Adventist Health Castle, a 160-bed acute care facility located in Kailua, Hawaii. Castle Medical Center is part of Adventist Health, a 21-hospital system headquartered in Roseville, California. Kathy is passionate about the pursuit of excellence and seeks to lead Adventist Health Castle’s journey to top decile performance across clinical processes as well as patient, associate, and physician perception scores.
Kathy is a registered nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in both Public Health and Health Administration. Her career has spanned 45 years, with experience in nursing education, quality, business development and administration. She is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives.
Bella Moses Petawabano,
Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay
Bella Moses Petawabano serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay. She has 35 years of experience working in health and social services in Eeyou Istchee, from social aid and community worker to 15 years as a senior manager at the Cree Health Board.
Until her election she was Assistant Director of Public Health for Awash Programs for the CBHSSJB, overseeing regional public health programs and services directed at infants, children and young families.
Bella Petawabano’s early years were spent on her family hunting lands where she was born in 1952. After high school, she took a Medical Secretary course at Algonguin College. She holds a Certificate of Social Work from the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi and a Bachelor of Social Work from McGill University. Bella has 17 years’ experience as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cree Health Board, as well as experience as an elected counselor for the Cree Nation of Mistissini.
