Southcentral Foundation Receives Presidential Honor: 2017 Baldrige National Quality Award
Southcentral Foundation has been selected to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, announced Nov. 16 by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. SCF has become a global leader among health care organizations and recognized for its Nuka System of Care.
The Malcolm Baldrige Award is the nation’s only presidential award for performance excellence and innovation. Named after Malcolm Baldrige, the 26th Secretary of Commerce, the Baldrige Award was established by Congress in 1987 to enhance the competitiveness and performance of U.S. businesses. SCF is the only health care organization to receive the award twice.
“When companies implement the ground-tested Baldrige approach, they create organizations that employees and customers love, that continually improve, and that produce innovative and outstanding results,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.
An independent board of examiners recommended this year’s Baldrige Award recipients from a field of 24 applicants after evaluating them in seven areas defined by the Baldrige Excellence Framework: leadership, strategy, customers, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce, operations, and results. An organization may compete for the award in one of six categories: manufacturing, service, small business, health care, education and nonprofit (including government agencies). This is the first time Southcentral Foundation has been eligible to receive the award since the organization first won in 2011.
Southcentral Foundation will accept the award at the Baldrige national Quest for Excellence Conference in April.
Southcentral Foundation is an Alaska Native-owned, nonprofit health care organization. Managing more than 80 health care programs and services, SCF serves 65,000 Alaska Native and American Indian people in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Borough, and 55 rural villages in the Anchorage Service Unit.
