Through a needs assessment done by Southcentral Foundation, cardiovascular disease was identified as one of the greatest health concerns of Alaska Native people. In response to not meeting the 75th percentile goal for the “Controlling High Blood Pressure” Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measure, SCF formed a workgroup to determine ways to make improvements to blood pressure control for customer-owners.

Southcentral Foundation continually works to make care as accessible as possible for customer-owners. One of SCF’s Operational Principles is “Access is optimized and waiting times are limited,” reflecting SCF’s commitment to access to care.

Southcentral Foundation has come up with an approach to pain treatment that takes advantage of SCF’s system of integrated care and uses traditional Alaska Native values to support customer-owners, with an emphasis on early recognition of the diagnosis and interdisciplinary treatment to avoid development of complex chronic pain syndromes and addiction to opioids.
