Southcentral Foundation at the Upcoming National Tribal Health Conference

The National Indian Health Board’s annual National Tribal Health Conference will be held from May 1-5, 2023 in Anchorage, Alaska. This conference provides an opportunity for tribal organizations from across the United States to meet and discuss Alaska Native and American Indian health policy and public health. Southcentral Foundation will be participating in a number of ways, including:

• Introduction to Core Concepts. SCF will be hosting an in-person version of its two-day Introduction to Core Concepts training. This training is based on SCF’s Core Concepts training, which is held regularly for employees to support them in building relationships with customer-owners and each other. Introduction to Core Concepts provides communication tools, including best practices to listen and respond to story, which is heavily tied to Alaska Native and American Indian culture.
• Nuka System of Care Overview. This session, hosted by SCF’s President/CEO, explores the story of SCF’s Nuka System of Care. The session covers the beginnings of the system, including how SCF worked with Alaska Native people to transform the system into a fully customer-owned, relationship-based system of care. The session also covers how SCF practices care today, how health outcomes have improved through the Nuka System of Care, and SCF’s successes and lessons learned in making large-scale change.
• Integrated Care Teams Workshop. SCF will offer a 90-minute workshop about its Integrated Care Teams. Included will be information on team structure, roles and responsibilities, how team members collaborate, how all team members work in partnership with customer-owners to support them in achieving their health goals, and more.
• Panel on Strengthening Hospital Infrastructure. SCF will participate in a panel on how to strengthen hospital infrastructure to be better prepared for potential future outbreaks. Discussion will include lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and how they can inform future planning.
• Campus Tours. SCF will offer two tours of its facilities on its main campus in Anchorage, including the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center. The tour will also cover the Alaska Native Medical Center, which is adjacent to SCF’s campus and is run in collaboration between SCF and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. SCF will also offer a separate tour of its facilities in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and the Eklutna area.
