Sharing Knowledge of the Nuka System of Care Worldwide

Southcentral Foundation always appreciates the opportunity to share best practices and lessons learned from the Nuka System of Care. SCF leaders and subject matter experts often speak to national and international audiences about how Alaska Native people have built a system that has achieved improved health outcomes and high satisfaction rates while also reducing costs. Recently, SCF had the opportunity to speak to several audiences about various aspects of the Nuka System of Care. These included:

  • The Baldrige Quest for Excellence Conference. As a two-time Baldrige award winner, SCF’s expertise is often sought by organizations looking to build a culture of continuous improvement. SCF leaders spoke about its systems for integrated care, workforce development, and data and information management.
  • The British National Health Service. SCF has worked with the British NHS in the past on a variety of issues related to the provision of quality health care. Earlier this month, SCF presented to a gathering of individuals from the NHS about health care system transformation.
  • Danish Society for Patient Safety. SCF was invited to give the keynote speech at the Danish Society for Patient Safety’s National Quality Improvement Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. SCF’s President/CEO April Kyle and Vice President of Valley and Villages Dr. Michael Cooper shared SCF’s journey in co-creating health care with Alaska Native people.
  • Sch’áwatn Healthcare Education Forum. SCF presented to the Sch’áwatn Healthcare Education Forum in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The topic was interdisciplinary, team-based care for Indigenous people.
  • Tribal Self-Governance Conference. SCF presented at the Tribal Self-Governance Conference in Chandler, AZ. SCF leaders spoke about the evolution of the Alaska Tribal Health System and customer-ownership in SCF’s Nuka System of Care.
