Southcentral Foundation’s Strategic Planning Playbook
Healthcare organizations operate in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing environment characterized by regulatory pressures, workforce constraints, technological disruption, rising costs, and evolving patient expectations. While strategic planning is intended to provide clear direction and align resources with organizational goals, many healthcare organizations struggle to develop and execute effective strategies that translate into measurable improvements in access, quality, and outcomes. A sound strategic planning process can help an organization effectively allocate resources, ensure high-quality services, and meet challenges posed by a changing and unpredictable landscape. Southcentral Foundation has developed a strategic planning process that has enabled the organization to provide decades of high-quality healthcare services while maintaining high customer and employee satisfaction rates, and has supported the organization in twice winning the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. And now, SCF has provided a new resource based on its experience with strategic planning: the Strategic Planning Playbook.
The Strategic Planning Playbook details how to build and implement a strategic planning process at an organization. It is based on SCF’s process but can be adapted to fit the unique needs of any organization. The playbook contains information on many different aspects of strategic planning, including:
- How to begin implementing the process
- Defining measures to track
- Analyzing your current strategic situation
- Building a strategic planning cycle
- Different levels of planning and how to use them
- Evaluation
- And more
The Strategic Planning Playbook was written with input from SCF experts with decades of experience in operating and improving the strategic planning process. It is available for free download through the Learning Institute’s website. Strategic planning will also be discussed at the upcoming Nuka System of Care Conference!
