8th Annual Nuka System of Care Conference Overview

  • 8th Annual Nuka System of Conference Overview

The 8th Annual Nuka System of Care Conference is coming soon! The conference runs from June 21-22 at Southcentral Foundation’s campus in Anchorage, Alaska. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the system of care, designed and built from the ground up by Alaska Native people, that has improved health outcomes, reduced costs, and been nationally recognized for performance excellence, twice winning the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, in 2011 and 2017.

The conference will feature keynote speeches from Dr. Eric Green, Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute and Cheryl Hankard, Traditional Health Program Coordinator of Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services.

The conference will feature learning sessions on many different aspects of the Nuka System of Care, including but not limited to:

  • Leadership and governance
  • Integrated care teams
  • Case management
  • Integrated behavioral health
  • Advanced behavioral health care
  • Providing quality care in remote locations
  • Managing change and innovation
  • Engaging the community
  • Human resource practices
  • Employee learning and development

The conference is preceded by a session of SCF’s Core Concepts training, from June 18-20. This workshop teaches the communication skills that have allowed SCF’s providers to form the strong relationships with customer-owners that are the core of the Nuka System of Care. Participants will join small learning circles and learn methods for good dialogue and productive conversations.
