SOUTHCENTRAL FOUNDATION’S COVID-19 EMPLOYEE TRAINING APPROACH

One way that Southcentral Foundation has provided support to employees in response to the COVID-19 pandemic is through SCF’s Development Center, a department dedicated to employee training and development. The Development Center created a series of just-in-time trainings, primarily for employees in clinical settings. The trainings are based on recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). SCF’s Quality Assurance department is in regular communication with the Development Center regarding reducing risks associated with COVID-19.

To ensure easy access, the courses are offered online for SCF’s employees, and are usually only a few minutes in duration. The courses make use of video demonstrations and e-learning modules. The courses are:

  • Hand Hygiene. Covers when and how to properly perform hand hygiene using soap and water and/or hand sanitizer.
  • Personal Protective Equipment. Covers Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) basics, when to use PPE, and proper donning and doffing of PPE.
  • Reducing Viral Transmission. Covers the basics of how COVID-19 is transmitted and how to reduce transmission, how to properly clean surfaces at work and home, social distancing demonstrations, and how to respond to a symptomatic customer-owner.
  • Powered Air-Purifying Respirator Training. Covers the proper donning, doffing, and use of powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) equipment.

SCF’s Development Center is also working with SCF subject matter experts to create trainings and training resources to support the mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness of employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. The trainings will include modules on self-care, compassion fatigue and burnout, and secondary and tertiary trauma, with skills and tools incorporated to support wellness.
